Meditation on Scripture Changes Us
•Memorizing scripture is good for the mind.
•Meditating on scripture is good for the soul and brings about Christlikeness.
Don’t just read verses or store up mere knowledge when you read the Bible.
Pause. Let it sink in. Let it bring light into your dark world...your dark heart. Let it be the sword that cuts off selfish motives and selfish gain. Let it be the agent that purifies and rids your soul of bitterness and hatred. Let it stir so deeply that it causes you to pray for your enemy and do good to those who are persecuting you.
May the love of God reach the deepest part of our hearts so we aren’t unhealthily needy for the attention and care of people. May we be so spiritually filled with God’s truth and love that we find ourselves overflowing. We stop taking offense at others and we give them mercy instead of judgement.
When we are filled with the truth, we become more loving and less demanding. God meets our needs in the deepest parts of our being so that no matter what happens to us, we can say it is well with my soul.
I’ve found that this only comes from lots of hours sitting and meditating on God’s word and saturating myself in His presence. Our flesh wants to rise up in its selfishness over and over. The power of the word can help us crucify the flesh so we can live in the spirit and be led by Him.
His ways are higher.
Matthew 16:24
Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.
Romans 6:6
knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin
Galatians 5:24
Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
