Spiritual Roots of Disease
We live in a physical world. It’s a world with lots of things we see, touch, hear, feel, and taste. But do you know that we also live in a spiritual world? The Bible says that God is spirit. There is a spiritual world all around us that most don’t see with our eyes or hear with our ears.
There are angels all around us. Some of these angels are the angels of God. They serve God and worship God. Other angels are fallen angels. They followed the ways of satan. Satan wanted to be like God....he wanted to BECOME God. God threw him and his following angels out of heaven and onto earth. Now we co-exist on earth with fallen angels. Yikes! That very thought initially frightened me, but then I realized that God loves me and He wants me to OVERCOME the enemy. God also reminded me that He Himself is with me because I invited Him to live inside of me. I also realized that God sends His angels to minister to me when I am in need. Phew! We are not left helpless nor hopeless!!
My friends, we have to learn more about this spiritual realm because the enemy wants to deceive us and keep us from living in the blessings of the Lord. There are huge and devastating consequences for following the ways of the enemy and ignoring the ways of the Lord. The enemy will “minister” to our spirits in the same manner the Lord’s angels minister to us, but the enemy wants to lead us further and further away from the Lord. (Hebrews 1: 14 says, “Are not all angles sent as ministering spirits...”) The enemy lures us into watching things we shouldn’t watch, seeing things we shouldn’t see, listening to things we shouldn’t hear, touching things we shouldn’t touch, and so on. He knows the negative effects it will have on our souls. He knows that sin taints us and will actually manifest itself into devastation and consequences we actually CAN see and experience. Sin, such as worry or anxiety, will cause physical ailments such as panic attacks, heart problems, or other physical issues. Stress causes a number of ailments as well. Sin, such as drinking too much alcohol or using illegal drugs, can harm our bodies in many horrific ways and cause our organs to shut down or at the very least not function properly. Poor diets cause obesity and a string of health issues while sex outside of marriage causes emotional turmoil along with sexually transmitted diseases, etc. Once the sin enters into our bodies, we see our health decline. These ailments can and will pass down to our next generation and actually cause our children and children’s children to suffer consequences. This is where we get the term, “generational curses.”
It seems hopeless, huh? It could be and actually IS hopeless unless we learn and know the TRUTH. God does indeed want to heal us and help us live in a holy spiritual realm. He wants us to continually learn the truth in the scriptures and ask Him to minister to us through His Holy Spirit and even the angels of heaven. He wants us to gravitate towards healthy choices and live life according to His kingdom’s princpiles so we can see LIFE and HEALTH and PEACE manifest in our lives. Jesus wants to reverse the curse. He came to show us that HE has power over death and sickness. We truly need to seek after truth so we can live in the blessings of the Lord. Jesus taught us in His prayer saying, “His kingdom come, His will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” It’s our job to guard against the voices of the enemy and adhere to the truth of Jesus.
I want to share a few resources with you on the topic. A friend of mine let me borrow a book that gave me some insight as to what may have been the cause of some very serious illnesses I battled years ago. Sometimes God will give us immediate healing and other times He wants to show us how the diseases creep up on us through sin. I knew during my battle with cancer that I wanted more than just a physical healing; I wanted healing in my soul as well. I wanted to shut the door to the enemy and get him as far away from me and my family as I could get him.
If any of this resonates with you, I recommend digging a little deeper into learning about God’s design for us and how the enemy comes to mess it all up for us. Like the old saying goes, “Knowledge is power.” In this case, the knowledge of the redemption that Jesus offers could empower us to overcome the tactics of the enemy and step into new life in Christ!
Here is a resource that I turn to on a regular basis.
