Battling Fear and Anxiety?
Yesterday I saw a side of Paul in scripture that I never knew existed. 1 Corinthians 2 says that Paul came to the people of Corinth in “weakness, fear, and trembling.” What?!! Wait…let me read that again. Paul??? Our seemingly fearless, courageous, go tell people the truth at any cost kind of guy weak and fearful???
I’ve pondered this for 2 mornings now in my quiet time. Today I come to a few conclusions (I’m sure there are many more): Paul was filled with the Spirit and regardless of his emotions and feelings, he was obedient to what God wanted him to do. He allowed Holy Spirit to speak to him and reveal the deep things of God and Paul was moved by the Spirit rather than fears or emotions.
Fear was present. Weakness was present. Trembling was present. But God was also present and Paul allowed God to overrule all three.
I am asking myself and presenting this question to you:
What are we submitting to? Fear? Weakness? Trembling? Or to the presence and power of God?
Fear cannot rule over us if we want to see the activities and will of God play out in our lives or in the lives of those around us. Fear must not have a voice and it must not be the god we obey. We have to overcome it and crush it by connecting with the Spirit of God and obeying Him instead.
Let’s not have a form of godliness yet deny its power. I want to walk in the power of God and overcome every fear, weakness and tremble by coming closer and closer to the Lord and allowing Him to lead me instead of logic and emotions.
Help us Lord. For we surely need You for such a time as this when fear runs rampant and holds so many of Your people captive. Help us break free and walk with You in power and in truth.
