Goal Setting for You and Your Kids GOD’S Way

In order to set and accomplish goals, we have to step back and look at where we are and decide where we are going. Then we need to make sure we are rightly positioned and have the right people around us to accomplish those goals.

I’ll use myself as an example to show you what I mean. I have 3 main goals in this stage of my life: I want to finish my homeschooling years well, continue building my business, and help others learn how to come into the presence of God.

Goal 1: Finish Homeschooling Strong

When it comes to homeschooling my teens, even though they don’t need my help with school as much because most of their high school subjects are outsourced, I still have to make sacrifices and be there for my them. A teen needs guidance in decision making and preparation for adulthood. Therefore, I need to make sure their emotional and spiritual needs are met. Their dad and I try to get them planted in good soil where they can thrive and flourish in their God-given giftings and callings. We also find mentors and role models to help them learn and grow more in Christ-likeness rather than culture and world likeness. Teens don’t always like to hear a parent “nag” at them....(shocking, right?!) That’s why we make sure they are rooted in circles with other Christian leaders whom they respect and will speak truth into their lives FOR us. That way they are getting different view points, but still a solid, Bible based foundation. But at the end of the day, no one knows and understands a child like an attentive and involved parent. We pray a lot and ask God for lots of wisdom. I continue to be a stay at home mom just in case they need me at a moment’s notice.

Goal 2: Business Growth

One of the main reasons I decided to build my own business is because of my above goal; to be a stay at home mom who homeschools. Because I’ve always wanted to do that well, I knew I needed to find a business that would keep me inside the home with my kids.

So let’s talk about my business goals. There are a lot of ways to build a business and some of those ways are not God honoring; instead, they are self seeking. Sure, a business brings in an income but that income means NOTHING if it is not blessed by God. Money will become an idol and we will do anything for it if we do not find God’s purpose for the business. I love plugging into Christian business circles where we use the Bible as our model for success, instead of the world’s. So what are the goals? To hear God, follow His model for success and go where He leads and help those He wants me to help. I am thankful that I can give God the purest form of praise for success when I have established and rooted my business in HIM. May God always receive glory for the good things HE has done in my business.

Goal 3: Helping Others Come closeR to God

In order for me to help others come closer to God, let me just say it’s so, so important that *I* stay connected with other believers who want to help ME come into the presence of God. God made us to need community. We become like Him as we are around others who have Christ in them. I am continuing to learn from other Christians...from their books, their podcasts, or time studying the word together. The Christian life is all about learning and growing and pouring out what we learn. One person doesn’t rise to the top as a leader... we all rise together as a body of believers who desperately want to seek Him.

Where are you and where do YOU want to be? Are you connected with the right people to help get you and your family there? Are your feet on the right path or do you need to make some adjustments? I’d love to hear your thoughts! Feel free to comment below!
